From a lump of raw clay to a finished ceramic piece, this 5-session introduction offers a focused taste of wheel throwing.
You’ll learn how to prepare clay, throw on the wheel, trim your forms, and finish your work through glazing.
Designed for complete beginners or those curious to try wheel throwing before committing to a longer course.
What you’ll learn
- Preparing and centering clay on the wheel
- Throwing basic forms such as cups and small bowls
- Trimming and refining shapes
- Adding simple handles, textures, and slip decoration
- Glazing and finishing your pieces
What you’ll make
Expect to complete 3–5 functional pieces, depending on individual pace.
5-Session Outline
Session 1: Clay preparation, coning & centering, throwing cylindricals (cups & small bowls)
Session 2: Throwing bowled forms & small plates
Session 3: Trimming and refining forms
Session 4: Handles, surface textures & slip decoration
Session 5: Glazing and finishing
This class offers a well-rounded introduction and helps you decide if wheel throwing is something you’d like to pursue further.
Our workshops are beginner-friendly so all can join us!
Duration: 2.5 hours per session
(once every week for 5 weeks, or you may choose to come for more than 1 session per week)

Things to take note of:
Prep yourself before your class by keeping nails trimmed and short, have a hair tie (for those with long hair) and wear something comfy that you wouldn't mind getting a little dirty!
*Classes to be completed within 3 months - no refunds for missed or incompleted sessions. Please enquire prior to booking / making payment.
Our policy allows 3 months to complete the class from your booking date — this gives a little extra buffer (about 2 extra weeks) in case of things like work travel or sick leave.
